Why Antique York Racks Are Stupid

Bands, chains, wraps, straps, racks... are you sure this is training related?

TBF I think there is at least a documented case or two of some lunatic buying one of those for their garage.

documenting for posterity

Quote (in case the post gets deleted)
"Also be careful your pins won’t move with a heavy enough weight on them. I was squatting in a local SS gym last year and missed my fifth rep at 410. When I set it on the pins I guess I leaned backwards (it was the first time I’d ever failed a squat and never thought much about what to do in case I did). The weight of the bar pushed the pins out of the rack."

They’ve since installed tangs on them to lock the pins.
giggity

My actual antique York rack locked the pins on with brackets that swung around the uprights...does Rip's design seriously not have that incredibly common sense feature?

The screw-in bolts as barbell hooks still cracks me up.

Westside Barbell often used large bolts in place of
J Hooks
If “ screw in pins”, worked for Louie Simmons, count
me in.

Fine as a DIY hack. Ridiculous on a $1,600 rack.

Westside ran on a shoestring and working prototypes. Finished products that are at full retail should reflect that in fit and finish.
