Average lifespan of shoes?
Assuming one only wears their lifting shoes for lifting, do they have a typical “lifespan” after which replacement is recommended even absent visible signs of wear?
I have a pair of PowerLifts that are about three years old, and while I can’t quite get myself to spend $200 on an upgrade, seeing the updated version of my shoe on Amazon for $30ish made me wonder...

I'm not sure. My Romo 2s are at least 5 years old and I haven't noticed any degradation.

Adipowers since 2013 still going strong. If they tear or chip I'll probably buy the same.

My 2011 DoWins are still just fine. I had to replace the laces.

Re: Average lifespan of shoes?
It seems to vary a lot, I've got lifters with literally the same weightlifting shoes - same brand, same size - and some are worn to fuck, while some are in good condition. The ones who like to stomp a lot, or who wear their shoes to and from the gym, they get worn out more. The ones who just lift without dramatics, they last for ages.
But hey, if the ones you like are cheap, get them as a backup. You might accidentally leave yours in the rain or the dogs chews them up or you drop sump oil in your garage gym on them or something. For regular shoes, I found a pair I really liked, when they got worn out I bought two pairs - one's been sitting in my wardrobe for 6 months waiting for the other pair to wear out.

My Adidas Powerlift 2.0s have worn down around the edges of the sole near the heel and have generally gotten slick to the point of it being a hassle. I've had them for a little over three years, I'm pretty sure (it could be four, head injuries), and I walk around A LOT in between sets. Water fountain and back, water fountain again, TV, get disgusted at the politicking retards on E!SPN, water fountain, cardio theater, get disgusted at the clumsy, disjointed, lazy, cheap storytelling in most movies, do the next set, repeat.

I've got a pair of third hand Romaleos that have lasted me five years and just need the velcro replaced.

Re: Average lifespan of shoes?
I had a pair of VS Athletics last 5 years -- I could've gotten another 2-3 years if I took them to a shoe shop and had some small repairs, but I wanted new shoes.
My Sabo Deadlifts are going on 2.5 years.. I did have the first version, but they broke and MaxBarbell honored the Sabo 1 year warranty, which they replaced with the newer version. No signs of wear.
My Sabo Goodlifts are going on 1.5 years. No signs of wear.
My wife's Adidas Powerlfiters (I think version 1.0) are going on 3 years. No signs of wear.
With that said, neither of us are doing olympic lifts... which I think could increase wear/breakdown.

I have had my rogue do wins for 2 years now, I’m missing a half inch of the rubber sole on both shoes probably do to having to walk on concrete with them for 4 months from the parking lot to the gym. But they still work just fine/I can’t tell parts are missing
