Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
Last night, nothing special
me: meh day.
bench 245x1, 225x5 for the 245, my dear training partner misloaded and used a 25 instead of a 10 on one side on top of a couple of 45s for my 245 attempt. Lucky I noticed early enough, that could have been fun.
DL 375x5
daughter
bench 70x8x3 volume PR
DL 210x3 new PR
son - no sign of hernia-like pain a while, ramping up slowly again
bench 160x7,7,6
DL 235x5 (will slowly ramp up back to 265x5 where he was a month or so back

Hey Peez. I like your approach of working with your kids. I have a son (HS Freshman), too, that is into training and has done pretty well, but he's had some hamstring issues the last few months, so we really backed off on the lower stuff. I'll have to remember to check out your log more often and to maybe include my son's training as well.
Good luck lifting with the family!

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
Thanks Paul! It's great to work out with the"little" ones. Mine have been coming to Judo class with me since they were about 6, but that's on hold now ... One of things I need to remind myself of is that I am supporting them in where they want to go with lifting, give them the resources but not push them in any way - they are not doing this for me. So I just try to make this a fun time. They are both at the stage where some lifts are starting to get stuck so we're trying strategies to push through these obstacles. Honestly I think they just have to eat much more! And it will be a great foundation for them for pretty much anything.plabataille wrote: ↑Fri Feb 12, 2021 10:17 am Hey Peez. Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
So, we worked out in the afternoon instead of after dinner for a change - didn't really make a difference. Still, calamity ensued:
As I was trying to rack the bar after a triple at 405, the bar started sliding down my back, and I just could not get it on the hooks anymore - did not want to risk anything dangerous, so I dropped it behind me on the safeties. When the garage's shaking (and mine) subsided, the Rogue bar was bent, but no damage to the protagonist - phew.
RIP, Rogue bar that I bought off craigslist 8 or 10 years ago. You served me well.
I ordered a new OPB bar - black/black Cerakote last night. Probably a lot cheaper than the copays at the ER. I may have to compulsively check production / shipping status every few hours until the bar gets here.
So, stats:
me
Press 185x4,4
Squat 405x3
daughter
Press 65x3x5
Skwatz 150x3x4
son
Press 125x7,7,4
Skwatz 235x8,8,8 (going up in weight again, heading back to pre-injury weight at 265)

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
Bit late to the party - glad to see you're back, and lifting with the family too - that's great! My daughter is only six right now but I kinda hope she shows an interest one day and at least tries lifting to see how it suits.
Sorry about the bar, but new toys are good. Actual picture of me checking tracking information whenever I have new gym stuff on the way:

Yes that's me! Still hasn't shipped yet. In the meantime, we'll keep lifting with the steel noodle.BenM wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 4:17 pm Bit late to the party - glad to see you're back, and lifting with the family too - that's great! Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
Of course, UPS did not deliver the OPB on time due to the weather, they say. Maybe tonight...
Last Satutday:
Me:
bench 225x5x3
DL 385x4
daughter
bench 80x6x3 volume PR
DL 212.5 x 5 - I did not tell her that I had added an extra 2.5lb. She made it anyway, we had a good laugh about it after.
son
bench 175x4x3 we'll keep running it out
DL 255x8 almost back at 265!
All in all a good evening in the garage

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
The bar just arrived - she's looking evil just sitting there on the hooks - matte black shaft and matte black sleeves. Black Betty?

Your kids' training is looking great. Good job, coach!
You going to provide an in-depth review of your new OPB? I have a B&R bar which I'm very happy with, though I always wonder what it would be like to pull with a more aggressive knurl.

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
Thank you, sir! Love the bar, relative to my old Rogue "whatever" bar, it's a lot more grippy without being to sharp. I expect calluses on our hands to grow a little bit, but it feels just right, esp DLs feel much better. Presses are a little harder because, no whip, which I like to get out of the hole.plabataille wrote: ↑Wed Feb 24, 2021 7:30 am Your kids' training is looking great. Good job, coach!

Re: Pressing Matters - Peez' Log
Last night
me:
Bench 225x5x3 - kinda hanging out here, it's still an all out effort every time
DL 385x3 singles did not want to overdo on volume
daughter:
Bench 85x5x3 PR. Last best was 82.5x3 at the end of LP - then we cycled to volume and now running it out AMRAP until we get to 3s, then rinse, repeat back down to 8s at 5lb more than last time. I heard that upper body for ladies just moves slower.
DL 215x4 singles new PR. Almost double BW for her. Two plates are in sight!
My son will do very little for the next 6 or so weeks due to toenail surgery yesterday

Daughter

Still liftign every 2-3 days, just lazy about posting.
Yesterday afternoon:
Me:
Bench 205x9,8,8 Such much volume!
DL 375x3
Daughter:
Bench 92.5x3x5 went surprisingly well although we went up in weight from last time
DL 222.5x2 singles, but shaky.
Son:
Bench 155x7,7,5 - slowly getting back into it, as his feet improve & he can wear lifting shoes, he'll get back to DLs & Skwatz again
