On a good day: hope, determination, pride
On a bad day: dread, desperation, resignation

And always, hunger afterwards.

Yeah, for me it's mostly this as well. Almost always this, if it's squat or deadlift focussed. If it's upper body stuff, I usually look forward to it, but there's also usually enough GPP or high rep stuff to make me slightly dread it too.

It also depends on what happens beforehand. My weeknight sessions are done after putting our 3 year old to bed. If she's difficult (as she often is) and doesn't want to go to sleep, I get a bit annoyed and start to wonder why I bother.

During, it's 'you can do this' and 'x more reps'.

Afterwards I inevitably feel relieved that it's done and grateful that I forced myself to do it. And hungry. Always hungry. But that's not an emotion.

This right here 100%.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels guilty about working out while everyone is awake so I train when the wife and kids are sleeping.

I train during my work day (it's the only time I can do it) so beforehand I've normally got my mind on work, then during I've normally got my mind on work because people still call and email, and then afterwards I have to go back to work.

If you're gonna quote broseph, at least give him credit!

(It was a lazy pimp my ride joke, wherein I took your mental obsession with work while working out to make a joke in the format of an older joke)

I've almost always looked forward to training, with some dread on volume squat days. Usually the dread goes away once I'm under the bar.
Lately I've been feeling really blah about training. Not sure if it's the progress (still not too bad, couple of bad C&J days), guilt about still working out when my wife gets home (though still feel like poo when she's working on the weekend), or just preparing to feel like shit for the next couple of months when baby gets here.
Used to get ravenous after deadlifting, but lately I have been able to wait a bit after workout to eat.

Before: "Alright"
During: "Okay"
After: "Cool"

A lot of my lifting is to manage stress. Not that I have a ton of stress, but I like to feel manly on occasion. Lifting helps with that intrinsic (probably hormonal) need. Fondling keyboards is not what I was genetically predisposed to do. As a result, I'm using the entire session as a "long exhale" to decompress a bit. Listen to some tunes, see if I'm getting stronger (or weaker) and maybe get some #swōl in the process. Maybe even put up n00dz on Instantgraphs.

Anxiety while warming up.
I hate warming up, thinking what has to be done soon.
I know once I get to a medium-ish weight, I feel better.
I just want to get on with it, but can't . . . have to warm up or I'll die.

Maximal weight cleans, jerks, and snatches . . . some fear there.

Working out brings coming to terms with my age right in the foreground. . . . which sucks.

So generally, bad feelz.

I used to feel getting all fired up was the way to go when approaching a big weight, but being calm actually works better for me.

Before: "we suffer; we die; this is going to be totally meaningless"

During: "we suffer; we die; this is totally meaningless"

After: "we suffer; we die; that was totally meaningless"

Today's emotions:
Before - fuck, I'm tired.
During - fuck, I'm tired.
After - fuck, I'm tired.

One of those days where you just go, put in the work, and get the hell out.

Was lifting the other day and this song came on Pandora:

It seemed useful. Also, this video is amazing. Had to post.

ETA:

My point is that the emotional context of my sessions is relatively subtle and the music can help a bit. I normally don’t over leverage the effect though. Hence Yacht Rock and 70s R&B.
