Stupidest piece of equipment you've ever seen
I figured with everyone scouring the internet (Amazon in particular) for weights/bars/racks/DBs/KBs we must collectively be encountering some mind-blowingly stupid pieces of equipment, designed for god only knows what. Figured they deserved a thread... I'll start with two favorites:
And just plain weird...

That's hilarious. Reminds me of that Woody Allen movie, "Smalltime Crooks."
"You remember that nickname the guys used to have for me in the joint, 'The Brain'?"
"Ray, that was sarcastic..."

I’m trying to imagine a time you’d need a barbell that breaks down, sniper rifle style, into a pelican case.
Imagine Jason Bourne rocking up to Worlds and assembling his barbell in the lobby.

Re: Stupidest piece of equipment you've ever seen
I was getting fed up with my gym but had no space for a home gym. Scored some bumpers, and was trying to think of where to lift. I was considering getting a barbell and hitting up some underused basketball courts to lift in. This could have would nicely for that, though it probably wouldn't be great for the Olympic lifts I was planning to do.
That's basically the only scenario I could think of...

Re: Stupidest piece of equipment you've ever seen
actually, I would never trust the take-down-barbell for olympic lifts but.....
But a bar that breaks down would fit INSIDE a car's trunk, a small SUV's hatchback, or a compact pickup truck (without hanging out).
Plates are compact, and stack up nicely. The 7'+ bar? not so much.
I thought about lifting up at my family cabin once (3 hr drive).
The bed of my Toyota is only 5' long, sure a 7' bar would just hang out over the tail gate....sure.
But don't have to worry about it getting attention, or stolen, or road yuk/rain/etc on it.
The machining and design and material of that jointed-bar would have to be so kick-ass ...
$155. I'm sure that sum bitch would snap, or, never come apart after the first drop/deadlift with appreciable weight.

Not really equipment per say but a few years ago elitefts was pushing Bar Shield.
$50 for a small bottle of 3-in-1 oil, a brush and a rag. In a box.
People are going to say a deadwedge but I like mine.

I love the deadwedge and never understood the hate for it. On the way up to the work sets (sub 5 plates) you really don't need any help sliding weights on. Then stripping the bar later, the dead wedge is perfect and much better than a 2.5 plate.

I mean, maybe I like the finish on my plates and don't want to slam metal on metal all the time?

Unless going for your heaviest lifts, perhaps this would be the one legitimate use of a 60in bar on main lifts? Unless the whole thing would just take too much acclimation to be worthwhile.mbasic wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 3:22 pm actually, I would never trust the take-down-barbell for olympic lifts but.....

Rogue makes some shorty bars. IIRC, they were used in comps where several teams (8+?) were competing in narrow "lanes" close to one another....
As long as your didn't have to snatch grip anything, or put it in a rack or on a platform made for full sized bars .... I guess a short bar makes sense
(not really).

I sorta figured that there was neither rack nor platform at your destination (otherwise there might already be a bar). But yes, not typically practical or applicable.

My gym acquired one of these.
I'm sure rip seeing this would have rip eye twitches / facial spasms in disgust.
I like the music, its a like a mix of Terminator 2, and something from BladeRunner2 (sea wall scene?)
