Right. Maybe I'm missing something...and I'm aware there are lots of unknowns. But this seems like an obvious moral obligation.

Well - yeah - but I think we have a moral obligation to lift, shoot, hike, run unmasked around each other (if We and Jim can't avoid intimate contact in these contexts, we don't deserve to live).
I don’t understand this. Gonna go paint a window. Maybe it will come to me.

Basically, we have a moral obligation to be Covid-Jesuses and potentially remove ourselves as agents of transmission by building immune resistance via exposure now.

But after reading this I think I'm a full blown socialist now.
There are many policies in place that have distorted market function that lead to the results we are seeing. No need to transition to government ownership of the means of production to fix that.
It's more like I can't fathom ever considering the care of my parents as a burden to my ultimate earning potential.

Just carry one with you and put it on if you're about to encounter some crowds. Signaling helps.

Thankfully, people in Dallas seem to realize that being outside doesn't require a masks. I don't know about crowds since there don't seem to be any, and I generally avoid crowds myself anyway. I also appreciate that we were never given order to avoid parks, etc. Incidentally, Texas has one of the lowest deaths per day per capita rates in the country. I'm sure that won't continue though as our population probably has very few with immunity at this point.

Don't feel bad, bro. I've talked to your mom (like a lot) and she regards many years of your existence as a "serious compromise both to savings-goals and to quality of life at large".

So our governor just ordered schools closed thru the end of the year. I can't help but think that it's all just a political ploy against trump and the troglodytes toting guns around playgrounds.

I have pretty much ceased to believe that any reliable information about this will come from our elected government officials. There is no middle ground. Of course I don't think that computes in most American's minds. All or nothing. Can't open schools unless Bonnie can open her hair salon. Can't have playgrounds open unless I can get a tattoo. Can't have a wedding unless Steve and Debbie can bring the kids to Disney world.

In the context of COVID-19 and shutting down the economy: the reactionary measures taken took ZERO consideration for the majority of the population that will have real lifelong income and quality of life reductions and will have real health consequences to whom COVID-19 presented no great threat too. There will be real loss of life caused by the decision to shut down the economy.

On top of that, it will take 18-24 months to gain herd immunity and the only viable long-term strategy is opening back up and isolating the at risk populations.

So yes, we set upon a course the ensured great harm to the majority of the population in a doomed to fail short-term effort to protect the 65+.

I have been interested in Colorado.

Generally, from what I remember, they are low(est) with obesity rate ranking, and generally the most "outdoorsey" society we have in the states.
(And some click-bait-shit about altitude and body fat % and mitochondrial densities blah blah blah)

But was curious why they rank so high (not terrible, #16/50) up there for total deaths,
being that their state population in isn't so high, and the health factor thing .
Maybe they are just farther along in their own growth curve .... (maturity of their own spread).

ANYWAYS, it does seem to me their deaths rates for the <40 y.o. crowd are lower there.
I realize you were shooting from the hip in the above quote ....
....but Colorado is about half of that 1/7 hospitalization rate if I'm doing that math right. (2731 / 202 = 7% .... 1/14)

https://covid19.colorado.gov/case-data
High cannabis use. The lung damage from smoking weed is severe relative the the time spent smoking.
Denver is a pretty crowded area
A lot of travel, so high initial case load.
And overall case numbers are still so low relatively that population demographics will be outweighed by random factors. Even in NYC the known cases are less than 5% of the population.
pinging back on my own post here because the irony just dawned on me.

The nicotine from the evil cigarettes might actually tamps down the spread with the body of the infected
(even though, yes, the cigarettes fucked up your lunges in the first place).

But the cannabis, which mother-earth-made-&-its-perfectly-natural, you only get the initial lung damage part.

That's fucking cute and utter bullshit. Americans don't care for their parents. We make other people pay other people to care for our parents. LMAO.

All kids are a serious burden to earners, actually. We really need to reconfigure society so the young and old are not such serious burdens on our earnings.

Your busted thought process came through in your typos. You started with one thought, realized it was wrong, and shifted. But otherwise, we're on the same page. Euthanize the old.

eta: nevermind, I think I get your point. But.. it's wrong still.

You sell your kids into child labor and use the proceeds to pay for your parents' care. Win-win.
