Re: Running thread
I'm considering going full darkside in these Corona times and just foregoing the gym entirely and running all my gains off...

Re: Running thread
Excellent, something I'd not considered. I'm not very quick so when my mileage gets up a bit I'm going to have a couple hours a week to listen to books.

Re: Running thread
It's quite addictive in the spot where I am at the moment, and every run has a bunch of PRs for my 1 mile, 2 mile, 5k times and distance ran. Guess it's the same as lifting in the noob gains stage.

Re: Running thread
With love, I hope you get hit by a car.
Hit my super low 5K goal, so I am abandoning all timed running and anything >1mi. Well, I will probably still do sprint sessions that add up to >1mi and incline walks >1mi, but no more running.

Re: Running thread
Decision got taken out of my hand. Norwegian government just instituted an immediate ban on all gyms. Running and skinny legs FTW for the next couple of weeks.

It'll be bodyweight (trying Integral Strength from GMB) and running for me for the foreseeable future for me.

Re: Running thread
Sadly the PRs I’m setting aren’t great, and technically not PRs as about 5 years back I could do a 10k in less than double my new 5k “PR”.
But I’ve put on a few stone since then so I’m counting them.

Re: Running thread
Still running while gymless, and have some running gainz. Just did a 5k with very little walking, which I'm pleased with since there's 20 m elevation difference. Even though running isn't exactly my thing, noob gainz are exciting!

Also check out Overdrive. I don't know much about Hoopla but it seems similar to Overdrive, just adding another option in case Hoopla doesn't work.hoyeahtop wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 12:28 amExcellent, something I'd not considered. Re: Running thread
Thanks, few books on Audible to get through but after those I’ll be sure to check them both out!
Well in March I’ve gone from 2.5km in 15 mins (as far as I could manage).
To 5km in 25:58, 10km in 55:32, 15km in 01:27:45.
Really happy with that for a months progress, going to try and set a half marathon time in April. And break all of those PRs.

Same here. I used to enjoy one arm push up and handstand work even tho I was awful at both.olekto wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 1:35 pmIt'll be bodyweight (trying Integral Strength from GMB) and running for me for the foreseeable future for me.
Gonna take the opportunity to work on a bridge and cure some neck and upper back aches.

That's pretty sick progress bro! Way more than mine. What kind of program/approach did you use?hoyeahtop wrote: ↑Tue Mar 31, 2020 1:42 am Thanks, few books on Audible to get through but after those I’ll be sure to check them both out!

I loosely followed the advice of a dude @Hanley pointed me to, Joel Jamieson, and am slowly building an aerobic base with LISS runs in the 130-150 bpm range.

Re: Running thread
I just focused on adding either pace or distance each run, so each run I’d add some distance and do it slowly or do the same distance and try and beat my time. Running 2-3 times a week.
A few years back (about 4 years ago) I was about this quick too when I had the odd sporadic run, so it might just be like muscle memory where it builds back quicker.
Not going to pretend I’ve worked anything magical out with regards to my running programming because I’ve basically just went out as and when I can, but I’ve logged all of my runs in my log here if you want to look.

Re: Running thread
Kind of my approach too, only I'm focusing on increasing the mileage of individual runs. I'm flexible about recovery and training days, since I'm not used to this type training, so I don't count how much I run weekly. So I've run longer runs lately, but fewer times a week with more chin, pushup and stepup days.hoyeahtop wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 4:48 am I just focused on adding either pace or distance each run, so each run I’d add some distance and do it slowly or do the same distance and try and beat my time. Re: Running thread
Well, I put the capstone on my recent rash of long(er) distance running. Ran a race effort Half-Marathon in 1:54:18 (race was cancelled).
I started running in January with the goal of building up an aerobic base, and improving my timed mile. Through a buddy who recently got back in to running, I was coerced to run this HM with him. I agreed to it ~8 weeks out, and at that time my longest run was ~25 minutes. I ran a pretty aggressive plan to build up to 13.1 miles.
Glad it's over, and I can get back to jacking the weights properly!

Re: Running thread
@PC, anything sub 2 hours is very respectable, especially for someone that also lifts.
I miss running at times, but I remind myself that I had no real talent. For about 14 years, I was as dedicated to running as I am now dedicated to lifting. I was generally about 25 lbs. lighter, and still I never broke a 4 hour marathon (4:06) and only broke 1:50 once in a half. My fastest 5k was 22:15. I think if I were to get back into it, I would focus on shorter distances (800M - 5K). I would want to be able to squat heavy and run. The people that I've seen do this pretty well though carry very little excess body fat. Weight in generally is a killer with regards to running. It makes no sense then to be carrying any excess body fat.
