Re: Guns and Shit
Got my Strike Eagle 1-6x scope yesterday for my Sig MCX .300 blackout. Super stoked. Still need to mount and sight it. Will post pics when that happens.

Only if Congress gets off its ass. If it does, I might put a 9" barrel plus suppressor. It's a toy so I have to keep my spending somewhat in check.

Re: Guns and Shit
Does anyone have experience with the Ruger LC9S? I’m looking at picking one up this week (going to rent and test one at the range on Tuesday). Everything I’ve read online has been pretty positive, just curious to hear from folks who’ve shot/carried it.

Re: Guns and Shit
yeah, its interesting to see how the 'system' is going to be 'tested'...and shakes out.
lets keep the rest of this rest of this thread on the topic of firearms,
but I could see some similar situations happening in the future regarding other issues (immigration, abortion, taxes!, etc)
but yeah, dicey in Virginia because guns.

Re: Guns and Shit
I'll admit, I'm clueless on some stuff.
Did Virginia have a couple of school shootings and/or work place incidents?
Which state hasn't?
I don't remember VA having a terrible history of gun violence, like a Chicago or D.C. ?
*googles wikipedia*
2016 data shows they are pretty low as a State for FirearmDeaths/100K of population.
Murder rate is not terrible.
Middle of the road ranking wise, but well below the mean or whatever.
Can't believe AZ was as low as is was (FirearmDeaths/100Kpop.)

Re: Guns and Shit
Building a .45 ACP AR. Because I require interoperability with my 1911 I'm going to use the TorkMag 1911 Upper/Adapter. Right now I can't decide if I want to suck it up and get a pistol lower, or use the rifle lower I have on hand. A long-ish pistol barrel setup, more of a carbine than a full sized rifle makes a lot more sense. However, I really only want to have 1 AR lower sitting around (and only bought one TriggerTech trigger on sale), so I'm waffling.
For completely arbitrary reasons I've decided to only have .45 caliber firearms (apart from my shotgun and .22LR). I really wish there was some competition in the 1911 mag well adapter market, but as far as I can tell all the other AR45 stuff is setup for non-1911 magazines.
Anyone have experience with mag adapters for AR (other than the well established .22LR gear)? Did you feel like "ohh, this works" or is it more "ohh, this functions on the range"?

Re: Guns and Shit
If you use a lower that's not marked as a pistol or "multi caliber", you cannot build anything besides a rifle with it (16"+ barrel and 26"+ overall length). Just a heads up.

Yeah, it's part of the hesitation. I'm sure if I get a rifle upper for my rifle lower in 6 months I'll really wish I had bought a pistol lower and upper, and vice versa. Really only want to build out 1 AR though. In any event, I was going to buy the upper in Feb, but might wait till summer. Take my time and get this right the first time.

Buy a multi caliber lower and sell your current lower. Uppers are interchangeable. Problem solved.5hout wrote: ↑Mon Jan 13, 2020 5:43 pm Yeah, it's part of the hesitation. Re: Guns and Shit
New gun legislation (various control measures) is going to be passed by a democratic state legislature. Lots of counties in the state are declaring themselves "2nd amendment sanctuaries". See here: https://www.npr.org/local/305/2019/12/2 ... it-do-that. The "sanctuary counties" believe the new legislation is an infringement on constitutionally protected rights. I'm guessing the liberal northerners think this is legal state-level regulation.
Virginia is a really interesting mix of demographics. The north part of the state is basically liberal/urban while much of the rest of the state is about as rural as rural gets in the US and extremely conservative (with a bunch of military [typically conservative] mixed in).
Basically...I think this conflict is going to have to be resolved in the Supreme Court. And there are extremely interesting legal issues at play.
If you want to get in the weeds: here's the majority and dissenting opinions from the landmark Supreme Court case on gun regulation, DC vs. Heller: https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/07pdf/07-290.pdf (I don't know shit about the law, but I find both Scalia and Steven's write-ups to be compelling and brilliant.)
and should the sanctuary counties lose in the courts, @Cody is going to join the Virginia State Militia

Re: Guns and Shit
I've tried to parse through some the new Virginia gun laws.
Some of the restrictions are reasonable, and could kinda sign off on.
Some are .... overboard, and are easy fodder for "rabid" 2A proponents to turn into "dey r comin fer ya gunns"

Re: Guns and Shit
I have no issue with background checks for anyone, not a big deal. But limiting the purchase on a handgun to one a month? That seems really strict to me IMO. Banning assault styled weapons? that is just the dumbest thing ever.
I'm a Constitutional carry believer as long as you are not a convicted felon (violent, drug related convictions) and you use gun safety when handling a firearm.
@Hanley I personally loved reading Scalia's briefs in my Constitutional Law classes.

What causal variable in gun violence is this remedying? Just seems like fluffy horseshit meant to appease constituents rather than address any real issue.

Re: Guns and Shit
Exactly, it literally solves nothing at all.
Now I'm not sure how the local firearm stores are doing in that state, but I can imagine they are going to take a hit on sales with this. So lets go ahead and hurt the local economy guys, that sounds like a great idea!
