Self-Unrack Bench Press

#1

Post by Salahudin » Mon Nov 18, 2019 2:28 am

Hi Guys, quick question just curious if there is any downside to just self-unrack bench press Ala Bryce Lewis, it seems quite practical, any potential downsides?

Thanks :)

Main point of consideration is lifter skill.

Most competent lifters can self unrack since they have their setup down and movement dialed in. It’s important that you know where the hooks are relative to your bar path.

I move the bar to the front of the hooks first thing, then do the rest of the set up.
Not sure if he mentions that in the video.

I train alone, so i never take handoffs in meets, since i have no experience with it.
I don't have a particularly strong bench, but i always like seeing the elites who self unrack.

I unrack and self-handoff just like Bryce does in the video, for the same reasons he describes. No real downside.
