Instagram followers?
Holding a heavy weight is cool?
Looking good?
An excuse to eat 3lbs of lasagna and have a BMI >30?
A way to channel repressed feelings?
A ritual to keep Yog-Sothoth from manifesting in our dimension?
Something to do?

My wife would ask me "So you just keep adding weight? When do you stop?"

Now she just says "Good for you. Good for crazy you."

Whatever time and effort it takes to have those days where I am stronger than I've ever been before is still worth it to me. When it's not, I'll do something else.

What about those long periods when we're weaker than we used to be despite a lot of diligent effort?

It took me two weeks to figure out how to send chromoly money for the t-shirts. Ask manveer about my ability to internet. You'll get your $60 in a few years.

I'm terrified of osteoporosis.

My moms' vertebrae are crumbly. After a serious back surgery, she's having a hard time walking -- nerve problems in one leg. She slipped on some stairs and broke her forearm.

This is after a lifetime of eating right and doing aerobic dance exercise religiously. So unfair.

So I lift. I don't really care that much about PRs, I just want to keep loading my skeleton regularly, forever.

I want to remain sturdy and functional until very close to my final day.

A (older, late 50s) coworker fell down a few months ago and busted up her entire face. Jaw wired, all the stuff. Recently had surgery to fix some of that stuff. A week after surgery, she opened a French door to let her dogs out and somehow fell and broke both her ankles.
Avoiding stuff like that seems like a good reason to at least do some load bearing exercises.

I lift because I'm old. I started lifting because my back was hurting all the time. My back doesn't hurt anymore. I will continue lifting because I'm getting older.

Listen to Jan and follow his log. He’s strong and steady and leading a good life.
