Getting Jacked like a superhero
Age 23
Male
6'3"
~215lbs.
I have been lifting for a couple of years with SS method, I would always run out linear progression to pretty decent weights for squat and deadlift and then get busy and have to restart. Then about a year ago I think herniated a disc during a particularly heavy set of squat and was in a ton of pain for a couple of months. Thankfully with barbell medicine I learned how to manage the injury and was able to desentize my back and have resolved to finally get as jacked and strong as possible. With the generous advice of @omaniphil I am moving away from grinding heavy weights to more volume and rpe based stuff. I am starting MM for lower body and HVLF for upper body lifts and plan on gaining weight. Ultimate goal is ~240lbs. I also mess around with MMA and Jiu Jitsu on occasion.

I don't think you need to go that high. 225 would look good on you. Glad to see you here logging!

Squat
1x1 with 225
1x1 with 285
5x5 with 185
Bench
4x6 with 110
Density block
26 Chins in ten minutes.
Still psychologically getting used to the ideal that I don't have to trash myself with heavy weight.

Squat
1x3 with 160
1x2 with 185
1x1 with 220
Bench
4x3 with 135
and after every set a comp bench single
Deadlift
1x1 135
1x1 225
1x1 285
I realize i much prefer snatch grip deadlift than regular because it is easier to properly set my back.

Re: Getting Jacked like a superhero
Hugh Jackman is 6'2". I can't find anything saying how much he weighed for the role. Lots of places list his current weight at 181. He was so ridiculously lean for the film, this might not be that far off. I'd be shocked if he was over 200. I'd bet 190. But I'm bad at this. When body fat gets this low, people look bigger without their shirts on than they are. (I think Brad Pitt was only 168 in Fight Club.)appleswag96 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 16, 2019 9:01 pmGood question! probably Captain America. Although Wolverine would be in close second! You excited for Avengers?
I can't find good info on him.

This says that he has 16" arms, a 46" chest, and a 34" waist. I doubt that chest measurement. In any case, his size is not that hard to achieve. His level of body fat is unsustainable. He says so somewhere.

OK. Looking at a picture of Pitt in Fight Club, he's pretty scrawny.

See how skinny he looks in the picture below. I'd never be able to get that jacket over my arms.
To be 6'3" 240 and really lean, you would almost certainly have to be taking special vitamins.

Re: Getting Jacked like a superhero
As for Captain America, I haven't seen it. Just looked up Chris Evans. This guy is bigger than Jackman.
Evans is 6'0" (or so he reports, so 5'11"). I found something saying he is 194 pounds lean, so pretty big.

@iamsmu that second picture is Daniel Craig.
Also, @appleswag96, hope you enjoy your new log of talking about how jacked various actors are.
Also also, INB4 actors use drugs.
Also also also, another vote for Chris Evans as an example of something to shoot for vis a vis training goals.

Isn't it Evans on the left and Craig on the right? I didn't see one of just Evans.
. . .
He said that he wanted to go up to 240. My advice in many cases would be to drop 15 pounds if you want to look like these guys (if you are already carrying a decent amount of muscle). That Evans guy is carrying a lot though. So some bulking might be required. . . .

Lol. Yeah I forgot that you can't format posts to display pictures side by side... Obviously, it's a single picture and I'm an idiot.iamsmu wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 8:13 amIsn't it Evans on the left and Craig on the right? I didn't see one of just Evans.

And double yeah; looking jacked with your shirt off is mostly about having low bodyfat. My old motto was "I'd rather look impressive in a hoodie than have abs at the beach." Now I want it all.
To OP; my goal for a long time was to have some abs while being clinically obese (BMI>30). That would be 215 at 5'11". After cutting down from 230 to 200, I see now how unrealistic that goal was (for me). Not saying it can't be done, but I think many of us are realizing how much extra body fat we are actually carrying, and that we are NOT just a few short weeks of dieting away from being totally ripped.

Re: Getting Jacked like a superhero
Here's Jujimufu in 2012 doing an IRON CROSS!!! He's 5'10". He said he weighed 215 back then. He's 235 now. (I would rather be like he was at 215 than how big he is now. 235 lean at 5'10" is ridiculous.) He says that the added 20 pounds has made body weight stuff much more difficult.broseph wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 8:36 am

This is more what he looks like in "real life" I don't have enough muscle mass to cut and look the way I want but my I realize looking jacked certainly involves being lean.iamsmu wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 6:45 am

I wouldn't have it any other way hah.
Yeah i agree Captain America look might be more realistic in the long term. My log title was a tad bit facetious but I am still concerned about appearances.

I suck at replying so sorry for two posts but I go back and forth on exactly how I want to look. I was super skinny growing up so at first I want to big as possible even If meant being a little fatter than normal but now I want to be more mindful with my body fat percentage and since I do BJJ/MMA I want to be conditioned as well as strong.

Jujimufu is an absolute genetic freak and really fun to follow along. Its funny cause your training looks a lots like his and you both have show you can can pursue multiple physical domains at once.iamsmu wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 10:01 amHere's Jujimufu in 2012 doing an IRON CROSS!!!
