CeeKa's Log

Alright then... @unruhschuh - no way around this.

I've been training for a few years now. Like it's the case with many, it was more of the typical bodybuilding and machine-training stuff in the beginning, followed by the SS linear progression and too much program hopping after that.
Last summer I injured my lower back by straining the the spinal erectors right where they meet the sacrum. Had to skip training entirely for three months or so. After a quick LP to get back into things I started Andy Baker's "Garage Gym Warrior", and finished it with good success. (Long-awaited PRs, YAY!).

male, 25 y/o, 5'11" / 180 cm, 87 kg / 192 lbs (desperately trying to see 93-95 kg on the scale)
SVJ low enough to avoid taking the free test at my gym.

Last week's PRs:
Squat 400
Bench Press 275
Deadlift 465

I'm going to start a new program tomorrow - Jordan's & Austin's "The Bridge". I liked GGW, but wanted to try RPE based training rather sooner than later. After finishing The Bridge in eight weeks, I'm going to evaluate what program I like better and start adjusting accordingly.

Also, my plan is to not skip the GPP days included by the doctores in The Bridge, since I want to improve my terrible stamina. However, I'm going to try and do the GPP work after day 1 and 2 of the program, reducing the total number of gym days per week from five to three.

I hate conditioning.

I didn't test the press along with the other lifts. I reckon it's around 80 kg / 175 lbs (strict).

A few things I should mention:
Since I squat and bench in a wallmounted rig without safety arms, both the pin variations intended by The Bridge are replaced by their paused counterparts. Also: block pulls instead of rack pulls.

For now I'm too lazy to convert the weights to pounds. These are all in kilos.

2018-02-05 - Monday
Week 1 - Low Stress

Squat /w belt
135x5 @6
140x5 @7.5
142.5x5 @8

Close Grip Bench Press
90x4 @6
95x4 @6.5
102.5x4 @8

These felt good. Haven't dont CGBP for a long time, didn't really know how much weight I should go for. I wonder if I bounced the bar too much off my chest. They did feel controlled though.

Block Pulls
120x7 @6
127.5x7 @7
135x7 @8

Holy smokes! These pulls were terribly exhausting. I was under the assumption that block pulls should be easier than deadlifts from normal height. Maybe they felt so heavy because I barely had any lifting volume over the past two weeks - my legs were shaking quite heavily during the sets. Or maybe that's rather because I havent done 7+ rep deadlifts for ages. I'm sure my stamina has doubled alone from these three sets.

I hate the other training area, the atmosphere sucks. Also the rack isn't bolted to the floor and it's never parallel to the platform. This leads to the plates hitting the safety bars during the decent. Meh...

Psst!

Week 1 - Low Stress

2ct Paused Squat
120x4 @7
125x4 @8
130x4 @9

Press w/ belt
50x5 @6
55x5 @7
60x5 @8

Not sure about the RPEs. Shoulders were very sore from Monday which made it hard for me to judge them. No doubt less weight than I expected, but they should move better next week.

Pendlay Row
70x8 @6
75x8 @8,8,8

I tried to do these with little leg and back movement. Overshot the second set (goal was RPE 7).

GPP
Chin-up x 7 min
Plank x 7 min
Assault Bike x 25 min @6

Forgot to count the chins. No big deal, but I'd like to keep track of them.
Conditioning was lame. Time truely doesn't pass quickly on the bike. I'm going to have to listen to the AoM podcast the next time. Also I wasn't sure how to judge the prescribed RPE, but I made sure to keep the effort low...

Week 1 - Low Stress

Very sore abs from Wednesdays first GPP day.

Deadlift w/ Belt
140x5 @6
150x5 @7
162.5x5 @7.5

1ct Paused Bench Press w/ Belt
80x5 @6
90x5 @7.5
95x5 @8.5

3-0-1 Tempo Squats
80x8 @6
90x8 @7
95x8 @8

Tempo squats were brutal, doing them the first time ever and also for eight reps... They did feel a lot better with each subsequent set though.

I did like the first week of The Bridge. The RPE system sparks my ambition.

Week 2 - Moderate Stress

Squat w/ belt
137.5x5
145x5 @7.5
150x5 @8.5
147.5x5x2 @8, 8

Close Grip Bench Press
95x4 @7
100x4 @8
105x4 @9

Forgot the second set @9...

Block Pulls
130x7 @7
135x7 @8
140x7x2 @9,9

The lifts felt better this week. Especially the block pulls felt more controlled and less shaky (but still unexpectedly heavy).

55x5 @7

Thought these would go easier this time.

Pendlay Row
75x8 @7.5
77.5x8x3 @8, 8, 8

GPP
Chin-up x 7 min (30 reps)

125x4 @7
130x4x2 @8, 8

Press w/ belt
55x5 @7
57.5x5x4 @8,8,8,8

These are weird. Reps seem to go really easy for about three reps, but there seems to be no energy left in the tank for the last two reps. I was able to press higher weights during GGW, but I'll be patient.

Pendlay Row
75x8 @7.5
77.5x8x3 @8, 8, 8.5

GPP
Chin-up x 7 min (29 reps)
Plank x 7 min
Assault Bike x 25 min

Week 2 and 3 (so far) felt far more exhausting than expected. Maybe it is because I'm not used to doing conditioning at all. I wonder if it would be better to do the conditioning work on a separate day (Thursday), as suggested in The Bridge.

Really? 5@8 is roughly 81.1%. That equates a1RM of 197kg. Your last 1Rm is at 210kg, right?

I know... All the weights seem too low and I'm not sure why. It feels like my energy is depleted too quickly during each set and I suspect it's the fatigue from the conditioning work (though it is weird that this persists over a whole week). I'll just keep going and see how the lifts will develop over the next weeks as I hopefully adapt to the conditioning. The program is only 8 weeks long anyway.

Week 4 - High Stress

This workout felt unexpectedly good. Maybe I am adapting to the high reps and conditioning stuff.

Squat w/ belt
140x5 @7
147.5x5x4 @8,8,8,8.5

Close Grip Bench Press
90x4 @7
100x4 @8
105x4x3 @9,9,9

Block Pulls
135x8 @7
140x8 @8
145x8 @9
145x7 @9

For some reason I started doing block pulls for eight reps instead of seven. I realized that only before the last set...
