But seriously, have you ever tried/used one before? It looks like you’re training at home, and it would certainly be an extra expense even if you find one, but it may help with pain issues.

I do train at home, I do not have a SSB, nor have I tried one. Feel free to prosthetylize (including recommending a brand, posting videos, etc). I'm not certain I want to buy more gear right now, but I do like to learn about new things.
I’ve personally used Rogue’s SSB and I think the 2nd version of Titan’s. I personally prefer the Rogue, but the Titan one is just fine, too. There’s a huge thread in the Equipment forum on SSB’s: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=556. Lots of good thoughts there.

They’re certainly an investment (~$400), and depending on your circumstances, if you consider getting one, I’d try to find a gym that has one that would let you “test drive” it a couple times.

Be sure it's the 2.0 if Titan.
