Hey all, I'll be posting my log here as well now . (Wow, hyperlinks here are not subtle at all.)

Great to see you here. I am still appreciative for calling me out on a deadlift video last year, "Cool, now do something challenging".

Hope all is well with you.

We were just talking about your zercher squat earlier today. Always a classic.

I knew the cats would convince you. Though I'm a little worried I might be too easy to impersonate if it was that simple.

Yeah, after that period's over you'll just have to content yourself with smashing my squat.

Amazing what you can accomplish when you don't think about it first.

I haven't been very diligent in my lurking, but I'm assuming Egypt = Starting Strength Forums and thus Pharaoh = Rip? Does that make Mgil Moses?

Ok, Sean I saw the Zercher squat and the catch off the floor. Were you thinking about cleaning it? Because it looked like you contemplated on cleaning it.

Messed around with color correction some more, and what I learned today is that you can't really do much if there's just way too much light in some parts of the video. Well, maybe someone who's good at this can (Tom?), but I can't. So I'll try to stop getting the window and/or the lights in frame.

Remembered to shoot all the clips in 60fps this time. By the way, if anyone else is interested in learning this stuff, Casey Faris has some very helpful videos, and Resolve 14 Crash Course in particular seems like a great place to start.

Saturday, 18 November

Comp Squat: 390x5x3
Press: 175x5x3
Comp Deadlift: 410x5x1
Chinup: BWx7, 6, 6

Squat: Better than last time, but still plenty of extra knee movement to work on. Dropped from 20 to 15 lb jumps. I'll probably go straight to 10 lbs next time, so 400. Had to fight good mornings on a few, and lost at least one of those fights. Also, set up a bit lopsided on set two, which I thought I'd been getting better at. I'll have to do more checks with a view where I can watch for that.

Press: I accidentally jumped 15 lbs to 165 last time, so I figured 10 lbs this time would be fine. I was not correct. I mean, I finished them all, but not with the form I'd like. While I am still working out the press (I'll never finish refining my thoughts on it at this rate), I more or less see a second layback as analogous to upper-back rounding in deadlifts. It's fine if you want to do it, but it shouldn't happen by accident, like it did here. I was actually trying to avoid it.

Deadlifts: I don't want to speak too early, but I think I may have turned a bit of a corner with hook grip. In the past I've done DOH until I couldn't, then switched to hook. This time, I'm hooking every single deadlift rep, warmups included. I think this is helping me adapt, as 410 actually felt better on my thumbs than 390 did. Then again, maybe a fluke. Guess we'll see with 430.

I need to adjust my days to Friday/Sunday/Tuesday, but I don't want to have two rest days both before and after a workout while I switch, so I just won't take two days off now. I'll do Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and then normal from there. I'll get a little less recovery, but it should be fine.

Speaking of recovery, I was sticking to three minutes rest until last workout. I'm up to four now. Exciting stuff.

I hereby introduce a bill to ban Herbison from the forum, unless he gives me a very dishonorable discharge.

Yeah, no. No I was not. I'm reasonably good at power cleans, but that was still about 50 lbs over my max. Maybe I should have tried.

Yep.

Nice to see you here, Sean. I'm also trying to get used to the hook grip. What do you think made it click for you this time?

Way to stand up to Rip in the "Carni kill yourself"-thread. I was wondering if one of the SSCs would ever do that, so thank you.
