Platypus lifts/reads

About me - Male, born on the Nativity of Our Lord in the year 7505 A.M. I enjoy gallows humor, poetry, long walks on the beach, and large quantities of food.

PRs
My 5 and 1 rep max PRs, done on various occasions at various bodyweights:
Squat- 355x5, 385x1
Bench- 195x5, 225x1
Deadlift- 365x5, 450x1
Press- 145x5, 155x1

Current training plan
Wading through the darkness of my own poor decision-making. Something vaguely westside-ish.

11/6/17

Press 95x5x2, 95x12
Chin bwx4, bwx3
Squat 295x5x2, 295x10
Neck harness 10x25x4

Squats were a touch high when I looked at the video. I'll go deeper next time.

It's hard to balance lifting with BJJ.
Good luck! I look forward to following your progress.

11/8/17

Bench 155x5x2, 155x11, 185x2 paused
EZ curl 50x14, 45x12
Deadlift 335x8, 385x1
Neck harness 11.25x25x4

Notes:
-Another day of all time PRs! Since I've pretty much never done reps this high.
-I hooked for the first few reps of deadlift then switched to a mixed grip halfway through the set. I need to make a decision. My form is better with the hook, but the pain limits how many reps I can do. Perhaps I should wear straps and use them to finish the set when my hook grip give out. Or maybe I should just be tougher.

Thanks man! The press was an AMRAP, the squat I quit early.

Thanks Hector! I normally wimp out of two jujitsu classes every week, leaving me with 3 BJJ days and 3 lifting days. So it shouldn't be a problem.

11/13/17
Press 100x5x2, 100x11
Chin bwx5, bwx3
Squat 300x5x2, 300x6

Notes:
Piss poor squat performance today. I worked out after my first interrogation by law enforcement, so my head was spinning. I'd say hopefully I get better at dealing with them, but interrogations are something I hope to avoid practicing in the future.
Missed Friday's training due to wrecking my car. Learning to drive on ice is a slow process. Or rather the process was entirely too fast. Thankfully, my incompetence did not damage me or my passenger, only my car.
My sleep schedule has been excellent lately. It gets dark around 4pm now, making me drowsy well before I go to bed.

11/15/17

Bench 160x5x2, 160x11
Curl 50x16, 50x12
Deadlift 340x5
Neck extension 12.5x25x4

Notes
-Bench form was significantly better today. Last time I had to twist to get the last rep.
-Since my car is in the shop, I was stuck lifting on base. The weightroom is on the second story, with a wooden floor. I had to set the deadlifts down really, really slowly to avoid shaking the building or busting through to the floor below.
-The guy at the auto shop told me the car would take $3,800 to fix. I asked how much of those repairs were necessary to get the car running safely. "None of them," he told me, "You can drive it just fine as is, you'll just have to cut off the plastic that's rubbing against the wheel." Pretty much a miracle, given it wouldn't start after the crash.

11/18/17

Press 105x5x2, 105x11

Chin bwx6, bwx3

Squat 305x2x5, 305x8

Notes
- Squat form looks a lot better than it felt.
- Justice League was pretty decent.
- Currently reading Dangerous by Milo Yiannopoulos and enjoying it so far.

11/20/17

Bench 165x5x2, 165x11, 195x2 paused

EZ curl 52.5x12, 50x10

Squat 310x5x2, 310x9, 330x2

Neck extension 13.75x25x4

Notes
- My phone decided to stop recording after two squats
- It's difficult to tell if my bench form is lopsided or if my camera angle is just weird.
- I'm baking salmon for the first time as I write this. Hopefully it's amazing.

Nice AMRAPS, Platypus!

Convincing depth.

Some safeties would be nice for the bench though. You never know.

Thanks man! I'll probably start using a spotter soon for bench. People keep offering.

11/22/17

Press 110x5x2, 110x10

Chin 2.5x6, bwx5

Deadlift 345x7, 405x1

Neck extension 15x25x4

Notes
- The salmon on Monday turned out excellent
- At the time I thought that was all the deadlifts I had in me, but looking at the video I probably could have done several more. Next time I'll keep pulling till I miss a rep.
- Speaking of deadlifts, I normally have to switch to alternate grip after a few reps, but this time I did all my warmups with the hook à la @SeanHerbison and my hookgrip lasted the whole workset. Now I feel like I have a valid reason to spend my free time reading about other people lifting on the internet.
- Finished Dangerous and felt a glimmer of hope for free speech in the US. Next, I'm starting Trust Me, I'm Lying by Ryan Holiday. From what I understand, it's going to be about a guy who writes fabricated stories about celebrities for trashy magazines.

11/24/17

Bench 170x5x2, 170x10, 200x2 paused

Curl 55x12, 50x9

Squat 315x5x2, 315x9, 365x1

Neck extension 17.5x25x2, 17.5x20, 17.5x12

Notes
- Let my form go south towards the end of my main bench set. Oh well.
- I've been planning to bench 225 and squat 405 at my meet next month. I checked the 1rm chart on the wall against my numbers today, and my maxes are estimated at 225 and 405. Good timing.

Where do you get your rad sweatpants from?

Re: hook grip. It really is the best, once you get used to it. A little advice-- make sure to keep your hands moisturized during the winter. I've been lax about it recently and my thumb has split open twice in the last few weeks.

I get them from zubaz.com. They were all the rage in the 80s, according to the older guys at my gym.

Any specific moisturizer you'd recommend?

I'm mildly ocd about having stuff on my hands, but i've gotten over that in regards to moisturizer.

Fear of torn skin trumps wanting to wash it off.

This seems to soak in pretty well -

Glad to hear it's working well for you.

I don't have a whole lot to compare it to, but I like Corn Huskers Lotion. I don't like most lotions (is lotion that the same as moisturizer? I honestly don't know), as they feel oily to me, but this isn't bad. I generally don't bother at all, but since I've started consistently using hook grip, I've been using it. Seems to help.

Ugh, I hate most lotions too. For my hands, I like L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream, but it's kind of expensive. I haven't found anything that absorbs as quickly and works as well though.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys!

11/27/17

Press 112.5x5x2, 112.5x9

Chin 5x6, bwx5

Squat 320x5x2, 320x9, 370x1

Neck extension
16.25x25x3, 16.25x14

Notes:
- I've decided to add some high-intensity cardio a couple times a week. It's got to be doable indoors without looking terribly crossfitty, or else I won't be able to make fun of all my crossfit friends. I think I'll set the treadmill to 10mph and run as far as I can.
- Trust Me, I'm Lying is much darker than I thought it would be. Turns out, the guy is not a journalist. He basically feeds false information to supposedly legitimate journalists and it makes its way into actual news sites, not just gossip magazines. This is terribly unethical, and it's somewhat disturbing to think that a large portion of the news could be completely fabricated.
- Cornhuskers lotion will ship here for free with Amazon prime, so cornhuskers it is.
