This Log of Mine

#1

Post by loop » Mon Aug 17, 2020 3:53 pm

male, 42, 6'1" - on a good day... 20 years ago, 111.3kg - I was directed here as a good place to keep a training log

I used to strongman, I had some injuries then I had children - three of them, under 5 so I am time poor haha. Suddenly I found I hadn't trained in nearly a decade, was 25kg heavier and out of shape.

Goals for now are to get consistent training sessions under the belt and eat a little better.

Monday 17/8

Log Clean & Press 5x2x55kg
Bench Press 3x3x80kg
Dips 3x5x0kg
Ab roller 3x3

I nearly knocked myself out cleaning the log a number of times and press timing was off. The bench press felt okay, but also rusty.

I was hoping to use weight on the dips but they felt awful. I may drop these as they just felt more acky than anything. The Ab Roller was just sad, on my knees and out to my shoulders haha

The weights were all pretty comfortable, I'm not as strong as I thought I would be but it is what it is.

Food wise, I had peanut butter pancakes for breakfast, which I had promised the kids that held me over to dinner which was sausages and some vegetables. Not great, not awful.

Thanks for the welcome mgil & Wilhelm,

18/8

Medley, 5 rounds:
Sandbag 20m x45kg
Keg 20m x53kg
Tempo Hammer Curls 3x15x6kg
Rolling Thunder 2x3x +50kg

Round 1 of the medley felt a breeze but by round 3 I was dying haha There's some work to do with my conditioning

I am pretty sore after yesterday so the Hammer Curls felt nice. I don't know what the pin and implement weight but +50kg was a bit heavy on the Rolling Thunder, problem is once you load it it is hard to unload haha I'll reduce the weight next week I think.

This is how the rest of my week went:

20/8
Deadlift 5x2x 120kg
Silver Dollar Deadlift 3x3x +100kg
Front Squat 3x3x 70kg

Deadlifts felt heavy. Can't say I wasn't a bit annoyed at it. I then went onto the silver dollar deadlift just because the gym has it and I've never touched one before. I have no idea what it weighs but it was fun.

Happy with front squats, they were pain free. That's all that mattered.

21/8
Log Clean & Push Press 5x2x 50kg
Double Overhand Axle Deadlift 5x2x 110kg
Strict Press 1x3x 60kg
Strict Press 2x3x 50kg

The log flew up. Axle was too heavy, it kept rolling out of my hands, I missed the second rep on sets 3, 4 and 5. I was too stubborn to reduce weight but I will next week.

I got a bit excited with the pressing and overshot the first set. Ahh well.

23/8
Log 1x1x 70kg
Deadlift 1x1x 170kg
Front Squat 1x1x 100kg

I went in saying I would be happy with 75 on the log, 180 on the deadlift and 100 on the front squat. I think all those lifts were there today, I just wanted to make sure I had left something for next week. Good end to week 1. I did run out of time for accessories on most days.

More volume this week, intensity kept the same except for my last day.

I was pressed for time this week so didn't get any accessory work done and no conditioning, hoping next week is better.

25/8
Log 5x3x 55kg
Bench Press 4x3x 80kg
Dips 5x5x 0kg

Dips felt a lot better this week, everything moved great

27/8
Deadlift 5x3x 120kg
Silver Dollar Deadlift 4x3x +100kg
Front Squat 5x3x 70kg

Someone left a dumbbell near my platform which I was aware of but mid way through my deadlifts I forgot about it and tripped over it while holding a plate. Had trouble extending my knee after that but stuck through the session. My knee is still troubling me now but it's better - that will learn me for not dealing with the db when I saw it

28/8
Log Clean & Push Press 5x3x 50kg
Double Overhand Axle Deadlift 5x3x 100kg
Strict Press 5x3x 50kg

Dropped the weight on the deadlift and I was able to finish all the reps this week.

30/8
Log 5x1x 60kg
Deadlift 5x1x 150kg
Front Squat 5x1x 85kg

Not a bad week, hit a 4 plate deadlift at the end of the week. The log ended up being a push press rather than a jerk but it went up, I think I do better push pressing. The training might be catching up with me a bit as the first half of the week was a breeze but the last half was a bugger.

1/9
Log 5x1x 60kg
Bench Press 3x3x 82.5kg
Dips 5x3x +5kg

2/9
Log Clean & Strict Press Away 5x2x 45kg
Stiff Legged Deadlift 5x3x 90kg

3/9
Deadlift 5x1x 150kg
Silver Dollar Deadlift 3x3x +105kg
Front Squat 5x2x 75kg

5/9
Log Clean & Push Press 5x3x 50kg
Double Overhand Axle Deadlift 5x3x 105kg
Strict Press 5x1x 55kg

6/9
Log 1x 75kg
Deadlift 1x 180kg
Front Squat 1x 100kg

8/9
Log 5x1x 62.5kg
Bench Press 3x2x 85kg
Dips 5x2x +7.5kg

9/9
Log Clean & Strict Press Away 5x2x 50kg
Stiff Legged Deadlift 5x3x 95kg

10/9
Deadlift 5x1x 155kg
Silver Dollar Deadlift *skipped*
Front Squat 3x2x 80kg

11/9
Log Clean & Push Press 4x1x 57.5kg
Double Overhand Axle Deadlift 5x2x 105kg
Strict Press 3x1x 57.5kg

13/9
Skipped

Son woke up crying two days before the last day of this block. I ended up sleeping in his bed which made my back stiff. Later that day I am putting a bookshelf together and tweak my back reaching for a screwdriver haha

Anyway, I decided to skip the last day of this block. Overall, I hit my goal of getting training done consistently and also hit a 4 plate deadlift, topped 100kg on the front squat and probably had an 80kg log on a good day. Not too shabby for a return to training after a long lay off.
