More lifting, more snacking

#1

Post by acciosnacks » Wed Aug 14, 2019 12:18 pm

I finally scrounged up the courage to start a training log. Henlo!

Stats: female, 29, 5'6", currently 175. PRs set at bw of 185 at end of LP.

Squat: 290
Bench: 187.5
Deadlift: 280
OHP: 135

From about 2010-2018 I did personal trainer/hiit classes at the gym type stuff and in June 2018 I picked up a barbell thanks to my awesome husband who is a strength coach. Never looked back. Dear Diary, here goes nothing.

In the middle of a 16 week deadlift program, this week was 4x1 @90%, so 260. Popped up like nobody's business so I'm glad about that.

Incline press went awesome, PRed at 135x3 then backed off to 125 and then to 115.
Normally I do some bro stuff like curls and flys but I was spanked.

Looks like things are going well.
Congratulations on the progress and the PR. \o/

Are you by chance doing an all singles deadlift thing?

No, its organized into 4 4-week blocks with high volume at the beginning and then shifts to more intensity. 3 weeks of work and 1 week off. I found it on tnation  My deadlift has been kind of hit or miss, so I was interested in seeing what would happen if I pushed volume for a more consistent outcome. I haven't been training long enough to be able to confidently say what my issue is.

(Hope I did that right)

Nice numbers. Welcome to the forum and thanks for logging. I programme my wife's training as well.

That plan looks reasonable to me, for what that is worth.

And if your PR is 280, and 260 flew up, that's a good sign.

I did a singles program for a long time, and progress eventually leveled off.
I also seem to be responding well to more volume now.

Here's to DL PRs.

Thank you! And that's awesome, it's so rewarding when your partner is all in as well. My H does a stellar job and is a top notch coach. I have to admit he was the one who originally found my dl program lol but as I was searching through the interwebs trying to make my lifts go up I decided to do that one.

It's worth quite a bit, the knowledge I have picked up just reading this forum is priceless (even though lots still goes over my head). I may be picking your brain in a few months, I really enjoy dl singles.
May the deadlifts be ever in your favor

Tempo squat: 3x5 at 215
Chin-ups 7-5-5

Today is my "day 2", which I like to have a light day. I have been working on tempo squats these days with a 3-1-3 count.
I slept like crap last night and have been slacking on my protein and it showed in my chin-ups today. Last week I got 7-7-5.
Tomorrow we're going to the fair and I am getting an order of avocado fries. I expect it will go straight to my biceps.

SSBS 225x5x3 (reps x sets)
Bench 115x10x5

Day 3 happened today because we got a brand spanking new safety squat bar and I just couldn't wait to try it out.

I'm doing another tnation special for my bench because I like to torture myself. It's similar to the deadlift program but it starts at a lower percentage and higher reps. This is the second round that I've started, these sets flew up way faster than the first round.
But...5 sets of 10 is basically cardio anyways.

8/20/19

Good mornings 95x5x3
Incline press 115x5x3
EZ bar curls 3x8, bar+25lb

My dl program has this as a "deload" week (except they really mean no deadlifting but I can do accessory work). I've never done good mornings before so I thought I'd try them out.
Misloaded the bar for the incline press, I was supposed to do 125 so I finish my sets and go to take the plates of and realize my mistake. And there I was thinking "wow this is moving better than I thought!" Womp womp.
