9/6/2018

Bench - 290x5x5

Squat - 405x3x4

Pin Press - 200x4x4

Wanted to get 215x4x4 on the pins, since I rotated them to be fresh on the log Saturday, but RPE and the way I've built up fatigue with this weird week determined that wasn't gonna happen. 200 was around @8 so I kept it there and called it a day.

Sept 29th... at this point I'm gonna hope to maybe hit 250... it's a max event, Wessels rules (3 attempts, miss and you're out). Log starts at 170 and jumps 20lbs each round, I'm thinking jump in at 210...

The curveball is that it's a LOG... mine at home is slightly oversized (13" versus 12") so I'm kind of used to dealing with it but this might alter my plans lol... I'll just have to get a couple practice reps in for sure...

Looks cool as hell, though, so there’s that. My contest is just neighborhood level, but the same rules. We use the same slippery aluminum 8
inch hunk of crap I’m using in my log. I think I’d get 250 with a 10 or 12 but haven’t used one in forever.

Bench - 285x5x5

Squat - 385x5x4

Log Press - 240x1/200x6x2/190x6x2

(adjusted the last two sets of log down because they were hitting 9-9.5 territory wayyyyyyy too early)

Do you use a push press or jerk technique on your heavy singles? And do you change at all for volume work?

I push press the singles... I really need to try and get good at jerks, I'm not a very explosive dude, so my log presses end up looking a little like Big Z's because they finish kinda strict, just way lighter and way less impressive.

Volume is always strict...

Squat - 405x3x5

CGB - 305x4x4

Chins/Rows EMOM - BWx3/235x3x10

Dealing with some fuckery from my right shoulder. Only seems to be painful getting under the bar squatting. Doesn't bother me DURING... or even much after... and doesn't bother me at all on the bench... just getting under the bar is pretty painful... oh well, #voluntaryhardshit

Press - 240x1(PR)/202.5x5x4/202.5x4

Farmers Deadlift - 660x1/520x4x4

Front Squat - 265x5x3

Cost myself a rep on my third set of press volume. I've been using "1.5" lately and have a bad tendency to dive bomb my reps, last one bounced back by my chin and put me on my heels... final two sets I forced myself to slow down and they were predictably better.

Bench - 295x5x5 (basically cardio)

Squat - 390x5x4 (horrible shoulder pain, hammy cramps, good looking reps though)

Log Press - 245x1 (gorgeous rep compared to last time)

Strict Log - 200x6x4 (200 strict for sets across, time to deload and kick some ass in Elkins)

Strongest Man in the Forest 12
September 29th, 2018 - Elkins, WV

Strongman Corp - Open HW 265
B/W - 236

Max Log - The Dream Crusher - 212/232/252
Went conservative here and it was the right choice... warm ups felt really really good and even though 252 threw my balance a touch it went up fast. Probably would have missed 272, if 262 would have been an option I'd have gone for it for sure...

Truck Pull - Rollback + Pickup - 26k lbs of Suck
Man I hate truck pulls lol. Fun story, they pulled the HW guys together to offer us the EMPTY rollback since there was a "sticking point" in the track that was giving a bunch of people a hard time. Of the five of us NO ONE was about to wuss out in front of Phil Pfister so we opted to load the pickup. I'll never forget Nicole Mouser yelling "Fine! But if none of you move it you get to explain to Paul!" lol. None of us finished it, most got somewhere between 15-20ft, sticking point killed pretty much everybody. I managed around 10 ft... took a ton of gas just to start it. Oh well, I moved it, so I'll take it...

Death Medley - Duck Walk/Mouser Block/Atlas Stone - 325/315/260 - 30ft Carry/Load
Fully expected not to finish this, a lot of dudes DIDN'T finish this. Ended up easily being my best event of the day for numerous reasons. Going head to head with my dude/coach made it more awesome. Having Phil dub it "Battle of the Beards" doubled that. Was pretty quick on the duck for never having done it, the block went shockingly smooth, and then getting a good pick on the stone (no tacky) sealed the deal. It was a slow horrible walk, and I blacked out just as I got to the bar... which I managed to break with the stone... I don't think I'll ever have a performance as epic as this again...

Timber Deadlift - 700/735/780/815/860 (stated weight)
When I signed up long ago my only goal was to not zero this event. Five pulls is absolutely astonishing to me lol. Had to dig super deep for that "860" pull. Hopefully I get a whirl at this again sometime and break 900...

Bar Bending - 3/8" Rebar @12" / 1/2" Rebar @24"
First bend went super easy, second bend went better than I expected but I doubted myself and it ate up too much time. If I hadn't taken it back over my thigh before pulling into my chest I may have closed it. Dangit. Either way it went better than the last time I practiced it. Bar bending is already confirmed for next year so if I trek down to WV again maybe I can find redemption.

AWESOME time... the guys down in WV are no joke and are some of the nicest guys I've had the pleasure of meeting. Just so many cool things all around about this show... from finally getting to go head to head with Matt, having our events called by Phil Pfister, just everything was super cool. Serious considerations being made to go next year...

10/4/2018 Aaaaaaaand we're back

Bench - 300x5x5

Squat - 395x5x3/375x5 (instant crippling DOMS lawwwd)

Strict Press - 185x4@9/170x4@6-7/175x4x2@8

Strict is in the log slot until the Fall Classic... was supposed to find an @8 for 4 but being super smoked after the squats made it... challenging lol. Pretty sure I'm in the right neighborhood...
