Press Focused Block - Week 6 (8/4/19 - 8/10/19)
Thursday
Squat:
365x2
405x2
445x1x5
These looked faster on video than they felt. I'm hoping to get a squat PR next week... it would be nice if it was more than a 3lb PR, but we'll see.
Also, even though my weight isn't dropping very quickly, I was able to go a notch tighter on my belt for squats and deadlifts this week, so that's a good sign.

Press Focused Block - Week 7 (8/11/19 - 8/17/19)
Press:
185x1
205x1
225x1
245x0
245x0
235x0
235x0
Squat:
365x2
405x2
445x1x2 (video stopped because of incoming call on first single so I did another)
475x1
505x1 (PR)
Press was disappointing. I went for 245 because that's what I weighed Tuesday morning and I wanted a BW press. 240 would have been a 5lb PR but even if I went for that first I wouldn't have got it. Still, I did 230 last week and that's only 5lbs down from my PR back in April, and I've lost 16.5lbs bodyweight in that time, so still pretty good.
Also, I upgraded my garage plates to some rubber-coated Troy's that are nicer to handle, +/- 2% tolerance, and insulated against rust. Got them for $0.50/lb from the same high school where I picked up the dumbbells, and I also got seemingly good quality barbell along with them for $15. No markings to show brand but it it has snap rings, relatively mild knurling, power rings, and a center knurl. It was pretty rusty but I spent some time on it with the wire wheel and got it cleaned up pretty good. Definitely a step up from the hex-bolt POS that I had on the bar rack but never used for anything but landmine stuff. It should be nice if I want to superset rows and bench or something like that. Got the bar, 6-45's, 2-25's, 4-10's, 2-5's, and 2-2.5's all for $200... should be able to sell my old CAP plates along with the cheapo bar for that.
Squat was ugly, as all of my true 1RM squats are, and only a 3lb PR, but hey, it's still a PR. I mean, probably not actually stronger than I was when I did 502, especially considering I slept like shit the night before that meet, and I'm still like 15lbs heavier than I was then, but whatever.

Doing my weekly Exodus check in. As expected, you continue to crush it.
LOOKING good too. Those quads... Good work, man.

Thanks dude! I need all the quads I can get so I can stop deadlifting my squats. Gonna throw in the SSB and some other targeted leg work in the next few months.

Re: Creatively Titled Log
Press Focused Block - Week 7 (8/11/19 - 8/17/19)
Friday
Deadlift:
495x2
545x1
585x1
635x1
675x1
725x1 (PR)
745xF
Incline Bench:
225x1
255x1
275xF
Hit 725, for a 25lb PR. My straps actually started slipping at lockout, and the bar started to roll, which pissed me off. I've never had that happen with cotton straps. I guess maybe they have so much sweat and grime caked on to them that they're starting to get slippery? Gross. Still counting it because I had everything locked out before the straps started going.
Anyway, I decided to chalk up my hands and the straps and take 725 again just to get a nice clean lockout with nothing dodgy going on. Then after watching the video I somehow talked myself in to going for 745 instead. That was a dumb idea, as my back rounded right off the floor and it didn't go past my knees. Felt a slight tweak and put it back down. Feels ok now, hopefully don't have a week of back pain ahead of me, because we're going camping in the UP and tent life with a jacked up back doesn't sound like fun.
After deadlifts I decided to test my max on incline bench, which I've never done before. That was also folly. Thought for sure I would at least get 275, but nope.
Friday

I should have saved my earlier congrats for this...
I can’t even fathom lifting seven hundred twenty five pounds. That is ridiculously awesome.

Re: Creatively Titled Log
Thanks everyone!
Didn't train at all last week. We went camping in the UP. Started with two nights at Union Bay campground in the Porkies, a couple of sites down from where we were last year, right on the rocky Lake Superior shoreline. Then we did two nights at McLain state park, up in the Keweenaw. Also on the big lake, but our campsite wasn't right on the shore there.
Went to the usual Porkies spots: Lake of the Clouds, Presque Isle, Summit Peak. Once we got up to the Keweenaw I dragged everyone to some of the places we used to go exploring when I was in college, the ruins of old mining operations, Redridge Dam and the Freda stamp mill. The kids had fun and no one died despite Amanda's initial reservations, lol. Drove all over the Keewenaw on Wednesday. Got monk muffins from the Jampot, went to Brockway Mountain, and drove to the beach at Bete Grise and did some paddleboarding. Or tried to, anyway. I stayed on my knees the whole time, tried to stand up but it wasn't happening and the water was ice cold so I wasn't inclined to push my luck. Still have to post some photos on IG/Facebook. I took plenty but had no service almost everywhere we went so I didn't post them during the trip.
My back felt pretty ok on Saturday at a wedding, then I only got 3 hours of sleep that night because I had work to get done before the trip, and it was totally fucked on Sunday for the drive north. I could barely walk every time I got out of the van at a gas station. But we did a fair amount of hiking, especially on Monday and Tuesday, and it was pretty much back to normal by the end of the trip. We drove home Thursday because I had a wedding on Friday (and another on Saturday). Back to 100% today.
Oh yeah, I trained today. But I don't feel like writing it up at the moment, I need to sleep.

Glad you guys had such a good time. We stayed at Union Bay campground in the before children times and also did the usual stuff. Hearing you talk about it makes me want to get back up there. So cool.

My failed initial attempt at the Mustache Method. Tried to calculate weights to hit @8 but obviously my e1RMs were laughably outdated/optimistic. Restarting it this week and I'll be more conservative this time.

Got it. Lately I miss all posts that aren’t in threads I’m subscribed to. I didn’t even know about the bench competition until I saw smuts mention it on IG.TimK wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 6:44 amMy failed initial attempt at the Mustache Method.
