JoeLiftsWeights Training Log
Howdy,
I am 5 feet 8 inches tall and I weigh 235 pounds. I have been lifting weights since I was 15 years old. Over the last 16 years I have done wrestling, bodybuilding, crossfit, olympic weightlifting, and strength lifting. I have read numerous books on strength training and done all sorts of programs from Arnold's Education of a Bodybuilder, Steve Reeves' Building the Natural Physique, Ellington Darden and Mike Mentzers' HIT, Reg Park's Strength and Bulk Training, Super Squats, John McCallum's Keys to Progress, Wendler's 5/3/1, Tommy Kono's books on Olympic Weightlifting, Dan John's Never Let Go, Rip's Starting Strength, Practical Programming, Marty Gallagher's Purposeful Primitive, and Starr's The Strongest Shall Survive. I love training. I love working towards a goal and accomplishing it. I love discussing training with other people who have gotten their hands dirty, gotten strong, and learned something along the way. Let's get to work!

Re: JoeLiftsWeights Training Log
Welcome to the forum, Joe. There are a lot of guys here that really know about training. I have much to learn from them. You might try @Hanley's Montana Method. Seems to work really well without a ton of stress. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1456
Regardless, it is good community.

Re: JoeLiftsWeights Training Log
Thanks @mbasic.
I have been following Starting Strength programming (novice linear progression, heavy light medium, Texas Method 4 day split) for the last 2 years. During that time period I made some great strength gains, but I lost a lot of athleticism while in pursuit of bigger numbers (not mention many aches and pains). I bought Jim Wendler's Forever 531 and as I read it, it was clear that he has developed a simple, balanced, and intelligent approach for training that resonates with my own training experience. And since I won't be able to compete for the foreseeable future I am free to experiment. If it works great, if not I can run a LP and be back to where I am now in a little over a month. I am very excited to start the program.
This week I am doing the 7th week protocol TM test prior to starting my first leader. My E1RMs are:
Squat 585
Bench 350
Deadlift 645
Press 265
My 85% TMs are:
Squat 500
Bench 295
Deadlift 550
Press 225
6-4-2018
Mobility:
Agile8
Jumps/Throws:
Box Jumps x 10
Main Lift:
Squat 200x5, 250x5, 300x3, 350x5, 400x5, 450x5, 500x5
Assistance Superset:
DB Bench 3x10
DB Row 3x10
Back Raises 3x10
Notes: I went back to my olympic lifting shoes because my knees hurt after lifting in chucks. And that's my Captain. Apparently he doesn't care about my squats.
6-5-2018
Mobility:
Agile8
Jumps/Throws:
Throws x 3 x 3
Main Lift:
Bench 120x5, 150x5, 175x3, 205x5, 235x5, 265x5, 295x5
Assistance Superset:
DB Incline Bench 3x10
Pull-ups 3x10
Hanging Leg Raises 3x5
BW 233.8
Notes: Not bad since I was not able to bench last week. I strained my right pec following the TM 4 day split. That experience along with throbbing elbows and a few back tweaks made me acknowledge that I am not 20 anymore.
